I just ran across this awesome video and wanted to share it. It's a message from the Patriarch of Alexandria (Egypt) leader of the Coptic Orthodox Church titled: "Come back to God." It's an awesome message and really interesting from an Arab-Christian perspective.
I found it on (4/25) when I was looking for a video about the Feast Day of St. Mark, the evangelist, apostle, and author of the shortest Gospel. As
you may already know, the patriarch of Alexandria (Pope Shenouda III)
is considered the "successor of St. Mark" just as the bishop of Rome
(Pope Benedict XVI) is the "successor of St. Peter." St. Mark brought
Christianity to Alexandria in 48 A.D. and was martyred there in 68 A.D.
Pope Shenouda III recently passed away. May he rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteI have a Coptic friend in Egypt. I keep his family in prayer as they face so many challenges, now, with the Muslim Brotherhood in power. I recently had a crisis of faith and was suicidal (I have Bipolar Disorder and Asperger Syndrome) and it was my Coptic friend who was the only one who understood where I was, because he is so challenged in his faith being in Egypt. He is the only one who could reach me in my dark place, and it was his words that encouraged me to keep my faith.
Now, when I am down, I listen to this Coptic hymn: http://youtu.be/nUhKdg90NJo
What I would like my Catholic friends to know is that the Catholic Church recognizes the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist in the Coptic Church. They share in the Eucharist with us, and also in their great love for our Blessed Mother. God bless the Copts.
